While living in Tokyo, interested in patterns and abstraction, she found herself captivated by mosaics.  She travelled to the UK to learn more, and began experimenting with the possibilities of color mixing and color harmony.  After working as an assistant to Emma Biggs in London, she returned to Japan earned an Art degree and studied with master mosaicist, Toyoharu Kii.  Yumie has since been working independently in Tokyo. Her work has been exhibited in Japan and the US. She is fascinated by the complexity of life and its interactions. Yumie’s work brings together pattern and color harmony, the complex and the serene, beauty with chaos.
