Toyoharu Kii

Born in Ehime Japan in 1953.  Graduated from the University of Fine Art and Music of Tokyo in 1977.  He began to make mosaics in 1978.  He went on scholarship to Firenze, Italy to study at the “Istituto Statale dell’Arte”.  Upon returning to Japan in 1982 he began working as a mosaicist, realizing more than 80 murals.  Kii has received numerous awards including second prize at Picassiette 2000, first prize at Picassiette 2002 and 2008.  Prize of Encouragement at the Kajima Sculpture Contest 2004.  Finalist of the Orsoni prize in Venice Italy 2007.  First prize at Mosaic Biennale 2011 (Japan).  Exhibition in Moscow “Reliquary”  2011.  Jury’s special award at Picassiette 2012. Prize for the outstanding quality of work at the mosaic exhibition in Florence “Musiwa” 2013.
