Jo Braun is a self-taught visual artist with a PhD in sociocultural anthropology from the University of Iowa, where she was a National Science Foundation laureate.  After a few years conducting consumer research in a corporate environment, she left to build her art-making hobby into a full-time career.  As a studio artist, her work explores the evolution of human consciousness; as a teacher and writer, she promotes critical postmodern approaches to art making among her self-taught colleagues.  Maintaining both a public art career and an experimental studio practice, Ms. Braun has numerous public and private art installations in the Pacific Northwest region, and shows her work internationally.
